Is Luxury Vinyl Flooring waterproof

At A Plus Carpet and Flooring, we get this question a lot. We can say with confidence, that yes, luxury vinyl flooring is waterproof. Let's discuss this below.

Construction

Luxury vinyl flooring is constructed in layers. The lowest layer, the backing, is waterproof to prevent the growth of mold and mildew. The core layer is made of PVC, a standard construction material that is entirely resistant to water. It resists water no matter the length of exposure. Depending on plank or tile, the core layer will have a plastic wood composite layer or a plastic tile composite layer. Next comes the imaging layer, which has a depth to prevent nicks and gouges from appearing on the floor. Finally comes the top layer, a tough melamine layer resistant to scratches, gouges, and scuffs.

Format

The luxury vinyl comes in two formats: luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and luxury vinyl tile (LVT). LVP comes in a narrow strip with varying lengths and widths. It molds nicely to the subfloor and is very flexible. LVT, on the other hand, is more firm and comes in various square sizes. In addition, it can come with grout to enhance the visuals of the floor.

Appearance

LVP can come in any wood look species that you desire. Do you want cherry? Oak? Hickory? LVP can deliver with detailed grains in the image and whorls in the grain. LVT, on the other hand, can provide any stone, tile, or brickwork image available. It can even have a texture to it. The imaging is so precise that you will think it is real when you first look at it.
