Is luxury vinyl flooring durable?

Durability is one of the many benefits of luxury vinyl flooring (LVF). A multi-layered product is a more advanced version, five times thicker than original sheet vinyl, completely waterproof. In addition, it comes with a thick, transparent, melamine wear layer top that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. True LVF should measure at least 8-mm in thickness, with a 20-mils wear layer.

High-end style at budget-friendly prices

Inspired by nature, wood, stone, and tile images are available in many colors and designs and created with digital photography. The result is a clear, vibrant image with knots, swirls, growth rings, veining variations, a broad color palette, and an extensive pattern collection. In addition, the floors have micro beveling to add depth, dimension, and current trending textures such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.

To add to the realism, the material can be cut into strips and mounted on boards to mimic hardwood, called luxury vinyl plank (sometimes referred to as simply LVP). If you’d rather have stone or tile echoes, the material can also be cut into groutable squares, luxury vinyl tile (LVT). While it looks like the real thing, you won’t pay nearly the same price as you would for genuine materials.

Waterproof

Utterly impervious to liquid, LVF is made from waterproof materials and is impenetrable from bottom to top, meaning it can be submerged or spilled on. There's no damage to the floor if liquid can't be wiped right away.

LVF is low maintenance, requiring regular (daily, if possible) sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Installation can also be easy, especially when it's a floating floor where pieces click together and mat, then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue.
